13 Kitchen Lighting Trends for 2023 (Design Styles & Ideas)

Picking fixtures for your kitchen may seem like a stressful task, but it doesn’t have to be. Consider your personal taste, current trends and design styles to help you pick the perfect ones for your space.

Fixtures are one of the easiest to switch out making it a budget-friendly option compared to your cabinetry, flooring, backsplash and appliances. 

Let’s see what the latest trends in kitchen lighting are to help you spruce up your home for 2023.

1. Off-Centered Kitchen Island Pendants 

The island is often in the middle and typically we see pendants centered above it. This is a common placement and will certainly continue for years to come. 

However, there is an emerging trend in the design world where the island pendants are placed off to the side. I do expect to see more homeowners incorporating this into their remodels as they crave something unique and different. 

2. Mixed Materials

Mixing materials has been a huge trend over the last couple of years and it’s become interior designer’s favorite style.

Consider mixing metals, such as fixtures with gold chains followed by matte black bases. The look is stunning and creates a chic and contemporary vibe. 

You could also combine wood materials such as rattan with metallic chains to create a different look. Imagine a beautiful gold chain followed by a soft beige rattan base. 

3. Lantern Pendants

Lantern pendants have begun to creep into our interiors over the last couple of years. There has been an increased interest in industrial and victorian decor as many crave the old-world feel and pay an ode to history. 

If you want to add a touch of the olden days to your home and want to mix it with contemporary styles then this is a perfect pick for you. 

4. Metallic Fixtures 

Nothing is more classic than plain old metallic fixtures. Gold, brass, nickel and bronze are excellent options if you are seeking something more timeless and traditional. It’s been on trend for a long time and it certainly isn’t going anywhere.

5. Layered Lighting 

Layered lighting refers to the use of different types throughout to create a balanced and well-lit area. 

In 2023 homeowners are ensuring that they add all three types to their space, ambient, accent and task, in order to create the perfect mood.

6. Glass Pendants 

Glass pendants are a true classic that’s been around for decades and we will continue to see them be a preferred choice for many.

For those who like the high-end and glamorous feel then these will certainly make your space look luxurious.

7. Colorful & Bold 

Gone are the days when minimal and neutral colors were the only shades that ruled our homes. In 2023 we are switching up the whites, beiges and tans for pops of color.

Add some vibrancy to your space by incorporating some fixtures that make a bold and colorful statement. 

Some excellent colors that are in style this year are sage green, jewel tones, lavender and metallic blue. 

8. Vintage Inspired 

Vintage-inspired kitchen lighting is in style and is comprised of fixtures that are at least 20 years or older. Alternatively, their design can be inspired by the styles and materials that were popular at that time. 

It will continue to be on trend for a while as we continue to crave a feel for the past. So whether you want to go all-out vintage or mix it with more contemporary styles this retro decor trend is one to watch out for. 

9. Shapley Fixtures

Bubble lights have been creeping up everywhere in the interior design world. These unique and shapely fixtures are a trend that has taken over modern settings. 

If you’re more of a contemporary chic kind of person then you will love the beauty and appeal that comes with them. 

10. Organic Materials 

As more of us begin to live a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle we are beginning to see more organic materials being incorporated. 

Bring a bit of nature into your space and purchase fixtures that are made of wood, bamboo, rattan, and cork.

So ditch the drapes or pick sheer ones to bring in as much as possible. If you are remodeling consider installing large windows to help maximize its benefits. 

You could also incorporate a mirrored backsplash, not only will it make your area look bigger, but it will bounce sunlight throughout your space. 

12. Recessed Pot Lights

The best way to add ambient lighting to your kitchen is through the use of recessed pot fixtures. These have been extremely popular for a few years and will continue to be a staple.

If you love contemporary styles It’s sleek and chic look will give you an updated and modern feel. Don’t forget to include dimmers to set the mood at any time!

What better way to say glam than a nice beautiful chandelier that pleased perfectly above your island?

It goes without saying that this is the best way to bring elegance and luxury to your home and will always remain on-trend.
